Mahdi Quli Beq Bathhouse or Shah Bath is located in the city of Mashhad in the vicinity of the holy shrine of Imam Reza (AS). The fresco paintings on the ceilings of the Sarbina in this bathhouse, which is one of the oldest and most valuable historic buildings of the Safavid period, have epic, folkloric and anecdotal stories to tell. These murals were painted during the Safavid to Qajar Periods and underwent a change in Pahlavi Period. The question in the present article is what the head covers or hats of the people in the paintings were like and how this item of clothing changed and evolved through time. The research has been done using a historical-descriptive-analytical method. The results of this research suggest that the head covers in the frescos do not correspond to the time period of the stories and as we approach the new era, head covers and hats have been more accurately selected. This may be due to the lack of visual knowledge of the painters of the frescos.
