Some everyday and essentially practical objects such as textiles, lighting units and rugs have been in frequent use in the Holy Shrine of Imam Reza during different historical periods; hence, a large number of them have been donated or endowed to the shrine complex to fulfill the requirements. Textiles, in comparison with the other articles, enjoy a particular significance in the Holy Shrine since they were used for ornamental and ritual purposes as well. Astan Quds Razavi owns an exquisite collection of textiles from the Islamic period, the oldest of which belong to the Safavid period. A large number of these survived textiles belong to the Qajar period, many of which deserve extra attention due to their exquisiteness, weaving technique, embellishments, and use. Understanding the features of these textiles broadens one’s horizons for the conception of applied arts from the Safavid period to the present. This article aims to promote the knowledge about part of the applied arts used in the Holy Shrine of Imam Reza by studying the Qajar Textiles in terms of their structural, ornamental and practical features. This research was done using descriptive method, library resources, the archival records and field studies.
