The present study was conducted with the aim of examining and analyzing the motifs used in the buildings of the Safavid period with a contemporary approach. In this regard, efforts have been made to identify, classify and simplify the various effects of the decorative art of Safavid architecture, especially in the field of geometric, plant, calligraphy, human and animal motifs, to allow their use in contemporary designs. The importance of this comes from the fact that the revival of Iranian-Islamic cultural identity and aesthetics in the face of the challenges of globalization and the influence of foreign cultures requires the re-reading of the original artistic heritage of the past. The present study, by adopting an analytical-historical method and using library documents and field studies, examined several examples of landmarks of the Safavid period and while analyzing decorative elements, their application capacities in contemporary environments were considered. The results show that Safavid architectural motifs, despite their traditional structure, are highly capable of being used in new spaces and can provide a rich platform for identity designs in contemporary times.
